Our History

ZEUS SCIENTIFIC HAS A LONG HISTORY OF DEVELOPING INNOVATIVE, HIGH QUALITY DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS THAT FACILITATE RAPID, ACCURATE DIAGNOSES.

ZEUS Scientific is a privately held corporation that was founded in 1976 by Dr. Donald R. Tourville. The company began with producing IFA (immunofluorescence assay) test systems and continues to provide these today, around the globe. The ZEUS brand in the autoimmune disease IFA diagnostic market continues to be recognized to this day for quality and performance. The success of ZEUS Scientific was acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Small Business Administration in May 1984 when Dr. Tourville received two nationally acclaimed awards. He was the first individual to be recognized as Exporter of the Year by the SBA. The second award, the President’s “E” Award, was presented to him in recognition of ZEUS Scientific’s significant contribution by President Reagan.

ZEUS Scientific also developed and commercialized a broad line of ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test systems. This product line continues to grow in both autoimmune disease and infectious disease testing. New products are developed to expand the menu which allows laboratories to run an increasing number of assays with common protocols and common reagents, as well as developing new tests to more accurately diagnose patients. In 1987 ZEUS Scientific was the first company to develop, receive the appropriate regulatory clearance and bring to market a serological assay to test for Lyme disease – a condition with high prevalence in the local community where ZEUS Scientific is located.

In 1998, Scott and John Tourville teamed up to acquire the company from their father and continue to run the business today. ZEUS Scientific continues to grow on an annual basis and now has approximately 100 employees across a number of departments in the corporate New Jersey offices.

In 2000, ZEUS Scientific and Luminex Corporation announced a strategic partnership to develop clinical diagnostic assay kits on the Luminex open platform system, branded the AtheNA Multi-Lyte^®. This product line is a focus area for product development at ZEUS Scientific with continual assay development and products released to the global clinical diagnostic marketplace.

ZEUS’ focus and core competencies are the development and manufacturing of in vitro diagnostic test systems for autoimmune and infectious diseases. ZEUS Scientific continues to develop diagnostic tests in these areas but also is developing innovative diagnostic products in other diagnostic markets and working with cutting edge technologies to bring new products to the global marketplace.
