    The ZEUS Scientific, Inc. B burgdorferi (Lyme) (VlsE1 + pepC10) ELISA Test System is intended for the qualitative detection of IgG and/or IgM class antibody to VlsE1 antigen and/or pepC10 antigen from Borrelia burgdorferi in human serum.   • Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) are plate-based assays designed for detecting and quantifying substances such as antibodies. Other names, such as enzyme immunoassay (EIA), are also used to describe the same technology.

    In an ELISA, an antigen is immobilized to a solid surface and then complexed with an antibody that is linked to an enzyme. Detection is accomplished by assessing the conjugated enzyme activity by incubation with a substrate to produce a measureable result.

    ELISAs are typically performed in 96-well microtiter plates, which will passively bind antibodies and proteins. Having the antigens of the ELISA immobilized to the microplate surface makes it easy to separate bound from nonbound material during the assay.
